Today you see people on Instagram with what we think are perfect bodies, and 1000 likes but we don't notice how much this is affecting the way we view or selves or just how much Instagram is taking a tole on us. Making us second guess the way we look and feel or getting bullied in person and it continuing online. This originally started out as a great app for communicating with others and sharing posts but it quickly went down hill that's why i wanted to make a Multimedia project showing different pieces of the way that this app is affecting us. Dear Mom and Dad, The last thing I want to do is to write this letter to you guys. Everything is beginning to become too much for me. I've been getting bullied in school and on Instagram now for the past month. I'm tired of acting like everything is okay when it's not. I get endless texts on my phone and DM’s. I can't even look at my phone anymore because it hurts so much. I tried to be strong for you and Dad but I can't do it anymore. I love you guys for everything that you have done for me and I can't wait till we meet again in another world. Love your angel, Addie Mainstream Media presents unrealistic beauty standards in the form of photoshopped celebrities or skinny models. We don't accept the way people look in todays world outside of Instagram. People are comparing their appearance to people on Instagram images, and they often judge themselves to be worse off. Instagram is so full of filtered and edited photos that it’s become its own world showing how filters could be causing memory loss and affecting Teenagers image. More often than not, we look back at the images we share on Instagram, we forget what the original photo looks like. Editing our photos might be causing us to view our world through these filters, distorting our real memories to make them align more closely to the images on our feed, rather than what we actually saw. Instagram has some Pretty Huge affects on our Psychology. Bella was a 26 year old model with a following of over 300,000 on her Instagram account. She knows firsthand the psychological distress that Instagram can cause, and how deceptive the portrayal of a person's lifestyle can be on the social media platform. when she started her Instagram in 2013, she created a online person that she knew did not honestly represent who she was offline, and found this had huge consequences on her mental health. Users commented beneath photos of her posing in lingerie with praise such as "Love your body!" and "Girl those aaaaabbbssss". All the while, Belle was experiencing body dysmorphia, dangerously restricting her diet, and having panic attacks. Mind Everywhere on Instagram you see models Perfect Bodies Perfect face Depression hits Looking at myself in the mirror Knowing ill never look like them Anxiety Hits Is this what men really look at My shape is not big nor small But comparing me to them They have it all. My size should not define me My posts should not define me My mind is the only thing that WILL DEFINE ME. Recently Instagram began experimenting with hiding the "like" count on user's posts.Users are only able to see which of the followers liked a post instead of the aggregate number of likes. Instagram has not exactly date of when this will occur but this change will be used to reduce anxiety and social comparisons on the platform. on the other hand some people think that by getting rid of likes, people will simply begin to use one of the other metrics to compare themselves to others with. Alexander Mondalek, a fashion reporter in New York found herself seeing the side affects of How Instagram takes a toll on influencers' brains. I predict that if teenage girls put their phones down and find more healthy alternatives instead of just being on Instagram all the time. On 31 things to do instead of Instagram. She talked about doing things like doing a facemask, taking a bath, cleaning, or even just spending time with your family members or personal time with yourself without your phone can help. Instagram is affecting our mental health. Kids of young age are getting bullied through Instagram, it causes anxiety and depression, and makes you second guess your appearance because all you see on Instagram is models with their perfect bodies. If we don't unplug from using Instagram this cycle will continue and the younger generation will grow up thinking that they want to have the "Perfect" bodies like the people they see online and not learn to love themselves for them. Theres many other things we can do besides being on Instagram like communicate with others and go outside spending time with your family and friends. Instacap Questionnaire
