Welcome back to my Blog! For this weeks blog post we were asked to research a Zeitgeist topic and find out some information about our topic to get us started with our research. I will be answering Questions from the Blog Post 10 to help me better understand what a Zeitgeist is and my topic.
When first figuring out a Zeitgeist topic you need to understand what a Zeitgeist is. A Zeitgeist is the spirit of times, is the energy that sweeps through society, motivating new ideals, needs and desire. The subjects that i want to do my research on is how Social media affects us. when finding most of my information i will use the website Social media is affecting the way we view our bodies- and it's not good. This topic impacts males and females the most. This website it provides you with lots of statistics and videos on how both females and males view themselves because of social media and wanting to be like them affects their well being. When you go on Instagram you see women and men with perfect bodies and fit. When others see this they may think they want their body to be just like theirs and may not be able to achieve that. 22.8% of women fell that social media is the highest thing that impacts the way they feel about their bodies and 17.8% of males feel as though social media affects the way they feel about their bodies. Instagram first launched on October 6, 2010. Instagram is a photo and video- sharing social networking service owned by Facebook. This Zeitgeist affects the Instagram community. What some people see on Instagram it affects them in a way and they may want to look or be like the person they are following and that may cause them to become insecure. This topic is important to me because i want others to feel comfortable in their own body and not want to change themselves because they see others on Instagram. I want to make a change by letting everyone know that they should just be comfortable in their own bodies and to just love themselves for who they are.

This post provides insights into your potential research question and project argument. Let’s discuss whether or not this project intends to focus on Instagram alone as well as ways we can further develop this blog post to help support your upcoming research.

I totally agreed with your research topic. It's amazing how back then people would only view the ideal bodies through magazine/movies/tv etc but i feel like social media like Instagram made it worse. I feel like the mind set that people had back then were "oh these are movie stars, of course there's no way I could get a body like them" then they look at other people's social media with normal lives; "Oh these people are just like me, why can't I look like that too?".

Hey Jada! I found an interesting source that you can cite in your upcoming blog post/research project. Its about how social media as a whole can dramatically effect teens more then other individuals, self esteem.

This topic is a good idea, especially for this generation. I would say instagram has it the worst. thats where we all can really just compare our lives to other peoples. One website i found that may help with your research is https://file.scirp.org/pdf/SN_2016042814584244.pdf. Its a scholarly article that i recommend.

Hey Jada! I love the topic you chose for your research project. I completely agree with you, sometimes I feel a negative way whenever I open up my Instagram but then I also realize people like to post pictures of themselves only during the good moments. I often end up comparing myself with these unrealistic standards of beauty that people usually use Photoshop editing to achieve. I found an interesting link that you might want to use in your research https://childmind.org/article/is-social-media-use-causing-depression/

Hey Jada. I like the diagram shown for your research project. I know instagram share similar features with facebook but I can't say to what extent. That is, I have never been a fan or user of instagram because I always admire how much time and interest people put in it along with bashing or adorable comments people sometimes make in the public. I really look forward to dive into your research topic as I really want to understand why instagram has become an addiction for many in society.
